Physical Challenge: Hopping down the bunny trail!
Since we brought jumping into your life, we are going to increase the difficulty. Remember, jumping is using two feet, hopping uses only one foot. Now we are going to put obstacles in your way. ;)
The Challenge:
2 rounds of 10 each direction. For a total of 140 jumps
You will try some box jumps with a jump down on a box or a stair, forwards and side to side. The second task is to place cones or a stack of books in front of you and try to jump over the obstacle, forward, backwards, and side to side . Don't forget about your form: quiet landing, don't let your knees kiss and get your booty back.
We also want you to try and get 20 more minutes of physical activity: playing basketball in your driveway, playing soccer with your siblings/family, playing a game of tag (line, freeze, make up your own), or simply go on a run. Don't forget to get creative with your "obstacles" if you do not have books, stairs, or a box for jumping.
Spiritual Challenge: Be mindful
Let's talk a little bit about mental wellness today. Anxiety is a feeling of nervousness, of worry, or a general sense of unease. Anxiety is a completely natural emotion to feel, in fact, some argue that it's essential for survival. However, the rates of anxiety disorder continue to climb, with as many as 1 in 3 people experiencing an episode of anxiety disorder in their lifetimes.
There are several strategies to decrease anxiety that have shown to be effective, without resorting to seeking medical attention or medication. Mindfulness is one strategy to combat anxiety, and I'll teach you how to practice this technique as part of today's challenge.
THE CHALLENGE:
Spend 10 minutes away from ANY screen. Try to find a quiet place with little to no distractions. Pay attention to your surroundings.
Listen to your breathing. Begin to take deep breaths in and out. Practice this breathing technique for about 5 minutes.
That's it! You are well on your way to mental wellness. Practice this technique to calm your mind and body down whenever you need to. *Remember: practice makes perfect!*
Nutrition Challenge: All about sugar
If you watched the educational video yesterday, you know that sugar was the main topic. We are going to stay along the same lines and see what you can find.
