Week 2, Day 1 (4/13/2020) IMPROVE YOUR JUMP .... EGG-CELLENT

Physical Challenge

Egg-cellent Jumping, Bunny! The challenge for today will test those bunny skills and will build throughout the week. Today, we will focus on jumping and we'll progress to hopping later in the week. (Bunny Hint: Jumps involve both legs pushing off the ground while a hop involves only using one leg.) The workout today will be to see how many rounds of the following you can complete in 15 minutes: 10 broad jumps, 30 forward/backward line jumps, 30 side to side line jumps, 10 body weight squats and 5 squat jumps.

Check out Dr. Armour's video for some great tips on good form and then keep track of your rounds! Good knee position is key for today's challenge and you will need to push those bunny tails backwards in order to harness power from your legs!

Education Video

We know it's easy to get extra excited about all the "on sale" Easter candy, but, before you go loading up your cart (well, actually #socialdistancing, you shouldn't be there anyway... ;) ) watch this video by TedEd that showcases "How Sugar Effects the Brain". There will be another quiz at the end of the week, so keep a few notes! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEXBxijQREo

Nutrition Challenge: 'The Incredible, Edible Egg'

Eggs are considered a healthy food option because they are relatively low in calories (70-100 per), are a good source of protein ~7 grams, and have important minerals and vitamins such as Vitamin D and lutein.

We are going to provide you 3 of our favorite recipes that include eggs. The challenge is to pick one out, and share it with your family. You will get BONUS points for making one of the meals and EXTRA BONUS POINTS for posting a picture of your meal on the nutritional forum!

Breakfast Skillet with Spinach, Mushrooms and Goat Cheese: https://iwillnoteatoysters.com/mushroom-spinach-breakfast-skillet/

* REMEMBER* You are not to make an extra trip to the store for these ingredients! If you do not have one of the ingredients, try a common replacement instead. Half of the fun of cooking is making your own recipes = ] here are some alternatives options; for goat cheese try feta cheese, brussel sprouts can be replaced with spinach or broccoli, and regular salsa can substitute for salsa verde.

Have fun and happy cooking!
